1G1R regions

1G1R means "one game, one ROM": a user who wants only one version of each game picks it with a ROM manager (for example clrmamepro), using the Parent/Clone (P/C) DAT.

The field 1G1R regions of an archive says: "in this P/C group, this archive is the preferred version for these regions".

Example: in the group of Yoshi Touch & Go:

  • Yoshi Touch & Go (Europe) → 1G1R regions: Europe
  • Yoshi Touch & Go (USA) → 1G1R regions: USA
  • Catch! Touch! Yoshi! (Japan) → 1G1R regions: Japan
  • Yoshi Touch & Go (Europe) (Kiosk Demo) → empty

In the P/C DAT every region becomes one line inside the game:

<release name="Yoshi Touch & Go (Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es,It)" region="EUR"/>

How to fill it

  • Use it only for archives in a P/C group (parent or clone). Archives without a group don't need it.
  • Write region names, separated by commas: USA, Europe
  • Use the names from the list below, with the same spelling and capitals (usa is refused).
  • One region can be claimed by only one archive in the same group.
  • Leave it empty when the archive is not the best choice for any region (demos, betas, bad dumps, alternative versions...).

You can set it in:

  • the archive edit page and the submit page (field "1G1R regions")
  • the P/C list upload: 0013 - Yoshi Touch & Go (Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es,It)|Europe
  • XML uploads: attribute regions_1g1r="USA, Europe"

Allowed regions

The code is what the P/C DAT writes. Since November 2026 the country codes follow the ISO 3166-1 standard (3 letters).

Region Code Region Code Region Code
Argentina ARG Greece GRC Norway NOR
Asia ASI Hong Kong HKG Peru PER
Australia AUS Hungary HUN Poland POL
Austria AUT India IND Portugal PRT
Belgium BEL Italy ITA Romania ROU
Brazil BRA Japan JPN Russia RUS
Bulgaria BGR Korea KOR Saudi Arabia SAU
Canada CAN Latin America LAM Scandinavia SCA
China CHN Mexico MEX Spain ESP
Czechia CZE Middle East MEA Sweden SWE
Denmark DNK Netherlands NLD Taiwan TWN
Europe EUR New Zealand NZL UAE ARE
Finland FIN United Kingdom GBR
France FRA USA USA
Germany DEU

World has no code and can't be used: for a "(World)" archive write the real regions, for example Japan, USA, Europe.

When two archives claim the same region

If two or more archives of a group claim the same region, only one should keep it. These rules decide, in this order: the first rule that makes a difference wins.

  1. Good dump beats bad dump.
  2. Final release beats Beta, Proto, Demo...
  3. Official beats unlicensed (Unl, Pirate...).
  4. Own region: the archive whose own region contains the claimed region wins ((Europe) beats (United Kingdom) for Europe). (World) counts as Japan, USA and Europe.
  5. Original beats re-releases (archives with extra text like (Virtual Console)).
  6. Not Alt beats (Alt).
  7. Newest version wins ((Rev 2) beats (Rev 1), (v1.1) beats (v1.0)).
  8. Languages: compared one by one in the order of the language list; (En,Fr,De) beats (En,Es,It).
  9. Lowest archive number wins (only to break a tie).

In November 2026 these rules were applied once to all the groups with a conflict (log comment: "1G1R region conflict in the P/C group"). If a result looks wrong, fix it by hand: a datter's choice is always better than a rule.

A bit of history

  • The field was born for GoodMerge, a tool that packed ROM sets into one 7z archive per P/C group. DAT-o-MATIC exported XMDB files for it.
  • The field was called RegParent ("regional parent") and its values looked like (USA PARENT) (EUR PARENT): they told GoodMerge which name to give the 7z archive for each user's region.
  • The XMDB export was removed around 2022, but the field stayed: since then it is used only for the <release> lines of the P/C DAT.
  • In November 2026 the field was renamed 1G1R regions, the values became plain region names (USA, Europe), the codes switched to ISO, and the values on archives without a P/C group were removed. The old (USA PARENT) format is no longer accepted.
